    --------
    Greetings...

Time to try out this mailing list with some information on how Cosm is
    progressing.

    Status:
    -------

The OS/CPU layer API should be finished and is being peer reviewed by
as many people as we can convince to take a look. Implementation is
about 95% done, and only a few functions are still unfinished.

As far as porting, Solaris, Irix, OSF, Linux, BeOS, most of Win32, and
small parts of MacOS are now done. We are looking for programmers with
a good understanding of MacOS, Win32, and any other OS's to do porting.

The Utility layer is about 1/2 done. The unfinished code relates to
compression, cryptography, time, benchmarking, and GUI. If you have
experience programming in those areas we could use the assistance.
We need people with specific skills in crypto implementation and
    OpenGL/windowing interfaces.

Once these layers are finished, and the porting is done, we can start
using them to build Cosm itself.

    Current Work:
    -------------

As usual, the CVS archive is where coding takes place, and you can get
the latest copy of the code and docs from there. The CVS info and
links to tutorials are at http://cosm.mithral.com/cvs.html

We also chat about Cosm and other things in #cosm on IRC EFNet.
More IRC info is at http://cosm.mithral.com/comm.html

If you speak a language other then English natively, then we could
also use your help. Translations of the web site are needed, and later
translation will be needed for chapters and applications.
